2010 Wildland Fire Updates  updated 7/19/10

The Wildland Fire Season is here and active!! Homeowners can play an active role in protecting their homes and communities from the threat or spread of wildland fires by practicing the FireWise concepts.
This summer the Fairbanks North Star Borough will be sending teams into the communities to educate homeowners on how they can make a difference in protecting their home and create defensible space. For more information on the Firewise concepts, please visit their website at http://firewise.org/ or would like to contact the team, please email them at firewise@fnsb.us.

Preparing Your Pets for Emergencies Makes Sense. Get Ready Now.

While our pets hold a special place in our hearts, unfortunately they often don't hold a place in our disaster preparedness plans. Please consider pets when preparing for the approaching wildfire season and other disasters. FEMA’s Ready Campaign has a brochure on pet preparedness(PDF file), a pet preparedness instructional video, and a Community Pet Preparedness Toolkit.

Learn how you can protect your home and property against fire from the FireWise Alaska guide http://forestry.alaska.gov/pdfs/firewise09.pdf
Burn Permits are required from April 1 – August 31st
through Division of Forestry.
For more information, contact Fairbanks Area Forestry (451-2626) or visit http://forestry.alaska.gov/burn/.
