Application Information for Potential Fairbanks North Star Borough Employees
Cover letters and resumes should enhance the application and describe
the candidate’s knowledge and skills relevant to the position for which
the person is applying. A good cover letter will be tailored to the
minimum qualifications section of the job vacancy announcement. Cover
letters, resumes and other documents can be uploaded into our online
application service AppliTrack.
Screening applications is generally a three or four stage process in
which all screening criteria are taken directly from the job vacancy
announcement. The first stage screens for primary job requirements and
ensures that an application has been “SUBMITTED”. Applications that have
been started but not “submitted” will not be considered for the
position. The second stage rates the applicants’ minimum qualifications
and is based upon information provided in your application using the
criteria from the job vacancy announcement. APPLICATIONS ARE REVIEWED TO
ENSURE THAT (ALL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE MET). For some positions, a
knowledge/skills test may be given prior to, during or after the initial
interview. Interviews comprise the final stage(s) of screening. An
applicant will usually be interviewed by the person with hiring
authority and up to two or three other members of an interview
committee. Reference checks are usually conducted for those applicants
who have been interviewed and are among the finalists.
All applicants can expect email or written communication during the
hiring process to keep them informed of the recruitment status. Once a
position is filled, notification of hire will be sent to all applicants
who competed for the position.
