Downtown Plan

downtown iconHow do you want downtown Fairbanks to grow?

Now is the time to get involved and help shape the future of our downtown community.

Update: If you are one of the almost 900 people who took our downtown survey, thank you! Some preliminary data was presented at Explore Fairbanks' Interior Tourism Conference on Wednesday, January 24. You can view those slides here.

A workshop was held Wednesday, September 27, 2017. Thanks to all who participated! Attendees answered polling questions and took part in a mapping exercise to help shape the boundary of the planning area and set priorities for types and locations of future development.

Mayor Kassel has assembled a working group comprised of ten downtown-minded community members to lead this planning process. They will meet throughout this yearlong process and will have an active role in the development of a new downtown plan.

This planning effort is anticipated to take a year. There will be at least three community meetings throughout the process and several surveys to get your input. Community Planning and the working group will also be conducting on-on-one stakeholder interviews, photo walks and other means for participation and input. When a plan is drafted, it will go through the public process of review and adoption, including work sessions and public hearings at the Planning Commission and the Assembly.
