Procedural Changes Due to COVID-19
As authorized by the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly on June 14, 2020, Board of Equalization meetings will be conducted in accordance with the approved modifications and/or waiver of Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) Code provisions governing Board of Equalization meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic and the state declared disaster.
Zoom
Board of Equalization meetings will be conducted remotely using Zoom. Citizens can listen via Zoom by clicking on the link or dialing the toll free number. This information will be routinely updated to reflect any upcoming meetings.

All Board of Equalization meetings will be live streamed through FNSB Live Webcasts.

Agendas are available prior to the meetings. Minutes are available following approval.
Property Assessment
Property Assessment notices are mailed every year by the end of January. Please visit the Assessing Department with any concerns regarding your valuation. Appeals to the Board of Equalization must be filed with the Borough Assessor no later than 30 days from the mailing date of your assessment notice. Meetings are held during the months of April and May.
The Assessing Department is located in the Juanita Helms Administration Center at 907 Terminal Street. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm, excluding holidays. Questions can also be answered by phone at 907-459-1428 or email the Assessing Department.

This Board falls under State Law (AS 29.45) and does not need to be reauthorized.
Members
Member Qualifications
Regular board members and alternate members shall be appointed on the basis of their expertise in:
- Construction
- Farming
- Property Appraisals
- Real Estate Market
- Other Fields Related to Their Functions as Members of the Board of Equalization
Regular board members and alternate board members shall serve for three years or until their successors are appointed and qualified. Terms shall be staggered so that approximately one-third of the terms expire each year.
