Parks and Recreation Commission
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review the Parks and Recreation facilities of the Borough and make recommendations to the Borough Mayor and Parks and Recreation Director concerning present and future needs.
- Advise and assist the Parks and Recreation Director and Borough Mayor in preparing and recommending revisions to a parks and recreation plan.
- Assist in preparing the annual Parks and Recreation budget.
- Review applications for names of parks and park facilities and placement of memorials and plaques and make recommendations to the Borough Mayor and Borough Assembly in accordance with FNSBC 2.28.030 and FNSBC 2.28.040.
- Make recommendations to the Parks and Recreation Director and Borough Mayor regarding new parks and recreation activities and utilization of Borough facilities for recreational and community purposes.
- Review plans for the disposal of property in the Chena Riverfront Trust and make recommendations to the Natural Resources Development Division per FNSBC 4.32.080(B).
- Review proposed revisions to the Chena Riverfront Development Plan and make recommendations to the Chena Riverfront Commission per FNSBC 4.32.090(B).
- Determine areas within Borough parks to be posted "no alcoholic beverages allowed" per FNSBC 9.04.030 and Borough parks to be posted "smoking prohibited by law - fine $50" per FNSBC 9.04.040.
Meetings
Meetings are scheduled to be held at 5:00 p.m. on the third Monday of every March, June, September and December. The following information is updated routinely to reflect upcoming meetings. How to Provide Testimony
In-Person or Telephonic Testimony
Once an agenda is published, citizens may sign up to testify in person or telephonically by doing one of the following:
- Calling the Clerk's office at 907-459-1401 no later than 4:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting;
- Completing the online sign-up form no later than 4:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting; or
- Signing up in person before the meeting.
During the meeting, the Chair will invite citizens to the table or ask the Clerk to call citizens when it is their turn to speak. Please note the following:
- If a phone call is not answered, the Chair will move to the next citizen who has signed up.
- Testimony will be heard in the order in which citizens have signed up.
- Each citizen will have three minutes to provide testimony.
- Other citizens attending in person may provide comments after those who have signed up.
